The Folk Art Messenger won three awards in the 2006 Virginia Press Women Communication Contest:
- First Place - for news reporting: "Museum Profile: The Hurn Museum," Spring 2005
- Third Place - for 4-color brochure: "Chicago: the 18th Annual Conference," designed by John Hoar of Market Design
- Honorable Mention - for magazine editing: Folk Art Messenger
The Folk Art Messenger won the following awards in the Virginia Press Women 2005 Communication Contest:
- First Place - for Four-color Public Relations Brochure -- 17th Annual Conference Brochure for Oakland, designed by John Hoar of Market Design.
- First Place - for Nonprofit or Educational Website -- Folk Art Society's Website, designed by Katherine Gates of Gates of Heck.
- First Place - for Photography, Faces in the Crowd -- "Snapped in St. Louis"
- Third Place - for News Reporting -- "California Symposium"
- Honorable Mention - for Folk Art Messenger
The Folk Art Messenger won the following awards in the National Press Women 2005 Contest:
- First Place - for FASA Website
- First Place - for Photography, Faces in the Crowd
The Folk Art Messenger and the FASA Web site won several awards in the Virginia Press Women 2004 Communications Contest. These awards were presented at the VPW annual meeting in Richmond, Va. on April 17, 2004.
- First Place - Four-Color Brochure (Brochure for 16th Annual Conference in St. Louis, designed by John Hoar of MarketDesign)
- First Place - Single Page or Pages Regularly Edited by Entrant ("Message from the President")
- Second Place - News Reporting ("A Day in the Country Moves to Morehead," article by Ann Oppenhimer)
- Third Place - Web site development, not-for-profit or educational (Web Site of the Folk Art Society of America, designed by Katharine Gates of Gates of Heck)
- Honorable Mention - Publications regularly edited by entrant (Folk Art Messenger, Spring 2003; Summer/Fall 2003)
- Ann Oppenhimer also won Honorable Mention for her speech at the South East College Art Conference, in Raleigh, N.C., November 2003: "The Music of Evangelist and Self-Taught Artist Anderson Johnson"
The Folk Art Messenger won several awards in the 2003 Virginia Press Women Communication Contest, which were presented at the VPW annual conference in Jamestown, Va., April 26, 2003:
- First Place, publication for general or specialized circulation (Folk Art Messenger, Summer/Fall 2002 and Winter 2002)
- First Place, page or pages edited by entrant (Book Reviews)
- Second Place, four-color brochure (15th Annual Conference Brochure)
- Third Place, news reporting ("Scholars Speak at Savannah Symposium")
In the National Press Women 2003 Contest, the Book Review entry won 3rd place and The Folk Art Messenger received Honorable Mention for general or specialized publications.
The Folk Art Messenger was competing against other magazines, not against newspapers or books.
In the 2004 NATIONAL Federation of Press Women Contest, "Message from the President" won First Place for Single Page Regularly Edited by Entrant in a Specialized or General Publication. |
